This two-session woodworking class will educate students on the basic concepts and safe use of the woodshop equipment needed to craft a unique lidded box with mitered joints from a selection of hardwoods. Participants will use the following equipment:
Structure: Miter joint boxes are ideal projects for beginners; students will learn many woodworking skills in the process. The boxes themselves make excellent keepsakes and gifts! This class is split into two weeknight sessions. For those requiring extra help or time to complete their projects, an optional "office hours" session will be available by appointment.
Requirements: Some woodshop experience in the past century required. This class builds on a foundation of introductory skills, but we will be skipping basics like machine identification and use case for the sake of time. Contact us at intro (at) hackpittsburgh (dot) org if you have questions. All supplies and safety equipment will be provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes, remove any dangling jewelry, and tie back any long hair.
